DENVER – The University of Denver women's lacrosse team (1-4, 1-0 MPSF) overwhelmed the St. Mary's Gaels (0-3, 0-2 MPSF) in a 20-7 win on Friday evening at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
Junior Lauren Ciccomascolo (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Denver offense, while junior goalie Ashley Harman (Boyertown, Pa.) and senior Lauren Benner (Arnold, Md.) made five and three saves, respectively between the pipes for DU.
Redshirt senior Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.) led the way with four assists, while also finishing with three goals for seven points.
DU outshot the Gaels 30-8 in the first half, and four first-half goals from Ciccomascolo helped Denver to a 13-4 halftime lead. The Pioneers committed just seven turnovers in the opening stanza while forcing 18. Denver outscored the Gaels 7-3 in the final 30 minutes to secure the victory.
Senior Tulley Stapp (Denver, Colo.), freshman Jenn Etzel (Bel Air, Md.), junior Becca Steinberg (Millersville, Md.) and sophomore Alex Befus (Colorado Springs, Colo.) each added two goals for Denver.
Junior Melissa Maier (Farmingdale, N.Y.), freshman Meredith Harris (Middleburg, Va.), senior Carrie Gamper (Towson, Md.), freshman Annabelle Gilbride (Alexandria, Va.) and freshman Gretchen Nace (Rochester, N.Y.) all added goals for the Pioneers.
