Dykstra Racks Up More Patriot Hardware
from press release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's lacrosse senior Lauren Dykstra earned her second weekly award of the season on Monday, receiving Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week to add to her Midfielder of the Week honor received last month. Dykstra finished the week with 10 points in two games behind eight goals and two assists. The Mountain Hawks (2-2) split a pair of games last week, topping Saint Joseph's, 16-3, before falling at No. 14 Florida, 15-10.
Dykstra's second award of the season gives her 15 for her career – Offensive (6), Rookie (5), Defensive (3) and Midfielder (1). The Tewaaraton Award candidate began on Wednesday against Saint Joseph's by scoring a game-high five goals and adding an assist in a dominant 16-3 win over the Hawks. That marked her 16th career game with five or more goals and second within the first three games of the season. She also added two ground balls and a game-high four draw controls.
The Mendham, N.J. native then posted three goals and an assist against No. 14 nationally ranked Florida on Saturday. Dykstra became only the second player this season to record as many as four points against the Gators; the other was North Carolina's Corey Donohoe.
Dykstra also helped Lehigh tie North Carolina for the most goals scored against Florida this season (10). Her two hat tricks for the week up her career total to 39. She now owns 201 career goals, only 41 shy of the school record. She currently leads the Mountain Hawks with 19 points behind 16 goals and three assists while she is tied for first in caused turnovers (6) and is second in draw controls (9).
Dykstra has recorded at least one point in all 56 career games, scoring a goal in 55 of them. She was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Friday for the second straight year, and is the only Patriot League player on the elite list.
The Mountain Hawks return home on Wednesday to face Siena at 3:30 pm. Lehigh will then begin league play on Saturday against Colgate, also at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
