Lafayette Scores First Eight to Beat Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse
team scored the first eight goals against Bucknell and never looked
back. The Leopards picked up the 13-11 win on Saturday afternoon
with four goals from freshman Ana White.
Six different Leopards found the back of the net for a team total 18 points (13 goals, 5 assists). Lafayette won the battle on the ground, picking up one more ball than Bucknell (17-16) and held a 15-8 advantage in draw controls.
Junior Alexa Biale picked up the win after making 14 saves in goal. Freshman Meghan Curtin made a save in the 12 minutes she saw in net for the Leopards.
Two minutes into the game, sophomore Katie Leto found classmate Jessica Rothstein on a second chance shot and sent the ball into the net to take an early 1-0 lead.
At 27:46, Addie Godfrey netted an unassisted goal and two minutes later White scored her first goal of the afternoon.
On a free position shot, Lafayette's (2-9, 1-2) Laura Kleiber fired off a shot past the Bison's keeper to take a 4-0 lead. White followed with a goal at the 19:22 mark.
On a Bucknell turnover, Rothstein found the ground ball and Lafayette set up its offense. Godfrey found the open shot and scored a goal at 17:42
Kleiber scored on back-to-back free position shots to finish the run at 14:21 and gave the Leopards an 8-0 lead.
Bucknell (2-10, 0-4) put together a mini run of its own scoring three goals over a nine minute span. Madison Hurwitz had two of the three goals in that run.
Victoria Maxon sent the ball to the back of the net with 3:39 left in the opening half before the Bison got off a final goal before the final horn, Lafayette led 9-4 at intermission.
Twelve seconds into the second half, White won one of her five draw controls and took the ball to the net for her third goal of the day.
After a Bucknell goal at 28:07, White netted a goal followed by an Ana Drehwing goal to give the Leopards a 12-5 edge
Bucknell came back with four unanswered goals over the next 10 minutes to cut into the Lafayette lead, 12-9.
Defender Tara Winter caused a Bucknell turnover at the 6:13 mark and sophomore Cammie Linville picked up the ball and brought it across the field.
On an Erin Steel assist, Godfrey scored her third goal of the afternoon. Bucknell closed out the game with two goals for Ali Carey and Julia Braun.
The Leopards return home for a Patriot League contest against American on Saturday afternoon. The women will play in Fisher Stadium at 1 p.m. followed by the Lafayette men's game against Holy Cross. Both games can be seen on LSN-All Access.
