Drexel Women Beat Towson for First Time

TOWSON, Md. – Drexel women's lacrosse beats Towson on the road for the first time in school history, 7-5, on Friday afternoon. The Dragons (7-3) who lost 17 straight-games against the Tigers (5-6) are now 1-0 in conference play.

Junior Jaclyn Klunder and sophomore Alyse Maiden both recorded a pair of goals in the victory over Towson. Maiden now has 23 goals on the season. Charlotte Wood and Katie Blazer helped put points on the board for Drexel, while teammates Kelli Joran and Emily Kane registered assists.

Towson took an early 3-0 lead powered by Katie Leech's free position goal in the opening minutes of the game. Drexel's Jaclyn Klunder answered back with a goal at 11:55. The Dragons went on a three-goal run and took the lead, 4-3, at the end of the first half.

In the opening minute of the second half, Towson's Jess Dunn tied up the score and looked to create momentum for the Tigers. Alyse Maiden scored back-to-back free position goals and held onto the lead for the remainder of the game.

Senior goalkeeper Whitney Johnson led the defense and recorded a season-high with nine saves. Johnson now has 51 saves.

Drexel women's lacrosse will host the Delaware Blue Hens on Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Vidas Field.
