Detroit Picks Up First NLC Win of Season

DETROIT – The women's lacrosse team held off the Blue Hose to pick up their first National Lacrosse Conference win of the season by the final score of 15-14. Anna Eidem led Detroit with a game-high five goals.

After a back and forth start, junior Emily Boissonneault gave Detroit (2-9, 1-5) a 3-2 lead at the 17:10 mark and the Titans would hold onto the slim margin for the rest of the game picking up their second win of the season.

Eidem scored two goals in the first and recorded a hat trick in the final thirty minutes of action to pace Detroit. Corina Mahorn also had a great game with four goals against the Blue Hose.

Other Titans getting involved in the offense included Boissonneault who recorded a hat trick, Lindsey Saunders who found the back of the net twice, and Zaynib Hamze who scored a goal with less than a minute to play in the first half of action.

Presbyterian got solid play from Kirstin Stenoien and Shannon Hartford. Stenoien led the Blue Hose with a four goal performance and Hartford connected on two goals and two assists.

This contest was close from start to finish. Detroit's largest lead of the game was four, and the Blue Hose came roaring back to score the final three goals of the game. In the end, it was Detroit who fought off the charge to earn the 15-14 win.

This was a physical game that featured 10 yellow cards, six on Presbyterian and four on Detroit. Fouls were also above average for the visitors as they recorded 45 compared to 26 for Detroit.

Detroit took advantage of their free position attempts and it paid off as they went 4-9 on the day. Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Alberts did a great job in the net as she stopped all seven of Presbyterians attempts. Alberts picked up the win for Detroit. She was great down the stretch making seven saves in the final half.

The Titans will return to action with a midweek contest against The Ohio State University on Tuesday afternoon. Opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m.
