Denver Opens MPSF Play with Win

from press release

DENVER - University of Denver freshman Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.) made her presence known throughout the game with two goals and five assists, leading the Pioneers to a 20-6 win over St. Mary's at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Jenn Etzel (Bel Air, Md.) added four goals and one assist, while sophomore Gretchen Nace (Rochester, N.Y.) also scored four goals. Freshman Rachael Dillon (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and senior Melissa Maier (Farmingdale, N.Y.) both recorded hat tricks for the Pioneers (1-1,1-0 MPFS).

"Overall I'm pleased with the way the team played," head coach Liza Kelly said. "We needed better shot selection in the first half, but we improved on that in the second half and we caused more turnovers."

St. Mary's (1-4, 0-3 MPSF) took a 4-3 lead with 18:51 remaining in the first half, but Denver dominated the rest of the game, outscoring St. Mary's 17-2.

Denver dominated the stat sheet, holding a 43-13 advantage in shots, 18-12 in ground balls and 18-10 in draw controls.

Denver goalkeeper Ashley Harman (Boyertown, Pa.) recorded four saves in the win, while St. Mary's goalkeeper Kathleen Worsdale made 16 saves. Gaels midfielder Amanda Cross led St. Mary's with four goals.

Denver next takes on Marist at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Tuesday March 13 at 7p.m. MT.
