Brown Scores 20 in Shootout Win over Bobcats

McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) and sophomoreBre
Hudgins (Syracuse, NY) scored four goals each to lead Brown to
a 20-15 non-league lacrosse win over Quinnipiac Sunday afternoon at
Berylson Family Fields. The win evens Brown's record at 3-3,
while Quinnipiac falls to 1-3 overall.
McGilloway was the game's top scorer with seven points, adding three assists with her four goals. Senior Julia Keller (Concord, MA) registered a hat-trick for the Bears with three goals, while sophomore Danielle Mastro (Endicott, NY) had two goals and an assist. Junior Lindsay Minges (Rochester, NY), and freshmanAlexandra Crerend (New Canaan, CT) added two goals each.
Also scoring for Brown was sophomore Grace Healey (Bellport, NY), who had a goal and an assist, and freshman Abby Bunting (Wellesley, MA), who added a goal. Bears' freshman goalie Kellie Roddy (Poway, CA) was solid in net, making seven saves.
The Bobcats were led by Lianne Toomey with four goals, while Kyra Ochwat and Michaela Tinsley added three goals each.
After falling behind, 1-0, in the game's first 25 seconds, Minges answered for the Bears in the opening minute to tie the score, 1-1. From there on, Brown never trailed in the high scoring game, and withstood several Quinnipiac comeback attempts.
Goals by McGilloway and Keller lifted the Bears to a 3-1 advantage, but Quinnipiac rallied to tie the game, 3-3, with 22:29 left in the opening half.
Brown took the lead for good, 4-3, on an unassisted goal by Bunting with 21:48 left in the half. The Bears twice led by four goals in the half, 9-5, following a Keller goal, and 13-9 at intermission, following a Hudgins goal with 18 seconds remaining.
The Bears remained in control in the second half and led by as many as seven goals, 19-12, on a free position goal by Crerend with 12:25 left in the game.
Brown will be back in action Tuesday evening, March 20, traveling to Smithfield, RI, to face cross-state rival Bryant. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Bears return home next Sunday, March 25, hosting Stanford in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
