Coogle Town: Towson Takes Down Temple
from press release
PHILADELPHIA – Towson's Rhiannon Coogle
scored five goals to lead her team to a 17-7 win over Temple
lacrosse on Tuesday afternoon at Geasey Field. The Owls (6-3) fell
behind early and were never able to catch up to the Tigers (6-2),
who were ranked in the national poll last week.
Despite trailing Towson in shots just 30-26, the Owls were unable to get much past the Tigers' goalkeeper, Mary Teeters, who made 11 saves in the game. Towson controlled a majority of the draw controls in the contest, finishing with a 17-9 advantage.
Stephany Parcell and Jaymie Tabor scored two goals apiece for Temple, while Stephanie Markunas assisted on three of the Owls' goals.
Coogle scored the third goal in a 3-0 Towson run to start the game, and Temple was unable to get on the board until over 11 minutes into the game. Parcell put one in the back of the net on an assist from Charlotte Swavola, but Coogle answered with two more goals in a 4-0 run.
Keelin Hood scored with an assist from Markunas before the end of the first half, and Temple trailed 7-2 at the break.
Towson started the second half with another three straight goals to lead by eight, and the Owls were never able to come within fewer than six the rest of the way.
Kellee Pace and Swavola each scored for the Owls in the second half.
Temple will have more than a week off before its next game, which takes the Owls to St. Bonaventure on Friday, March 30 for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
