Denver Fends Off Late Rally to Beat Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – A quartet of Pioneers had five points each, as the University of Denver women's lacrosse team held off a late rally by California for a 16-13 win on Wednesday.
Sophomore Jenn Etzel (Bel Air, Md.) scored five goals to help give the Pioneers (4-1, 2-0 MPSF) their fourth-straight victory. Sophomore Meredith Harris (Middleburg, Va.) had a hat trick and two assists, while redshirt junior Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.) recorded two goals and three assists. Freshman Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.) had a goal and four assists.
Trailing 13-8 with less than 15 minutes remaining in the game, Cal (3-4, 2-2 MPSF) mounted a comeback, scoring four goals to cut the deficit to just one during a span of 4:40. The Crimson and Gold scored three of the game's final four goals, however, to seal the victory. DU senior goalkeeper Ashley Harman (Boyertown, Pa.) made eight saves to improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Golden Bears received four goals each from Megan Takacs and Alexa Rozelle, who also tallied an assist.
The Pioneers remain in Berkeley, Calif., for a neutral site matchup against Hofstra on Friday at 1:30 p.m. MT, before returning home to take on George Washington at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.
