Denver Rides Defense to Fifth Straight Win

BERKELEY, Calif. - University of Denver women's
lacrosse senior goalkeeper Ashley Harman (Boyertown, Pa.) made 11
saves, leading the Pioneers to an 8-5 victory over Hofstra in a
neutral-site game on the campus of the University of California on
"We started and ended the game a little slow, but our defense and Ashley Harman played a great game," head coach Liza Kelly said. "We need to play with a bit more poise and strategy when we are up on a team. Overall, I am pleased with the trip and excited to get home to face George Washington on Sunday."
Sophomore Jenn Etzel (Bel Air, Md.) recorded a hat trick and added an assist for the Pioneers (5-1, 2-0 MPSF), who are riding a five-game winning streak. Sophomore Gretchen Nace (Rochester, N.Y.) had a pair of goals and an assist, while senior Melissa Maier (Farmingdale, N.Y.) added two goals and sophomore Meredith Harris (Middleburg, Va.) had a goal and an assist.
The Crimson and Gold rolled through the first half, jumping to a 7-1 lead at the break after dominating 24-10 in shots. However, Hofstra (2-6) outscored DU 4-1 in the second half to cut the lead, outshooting DU 15-6 after halftime.
The Pioneers return to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, where they will host George Washington on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.
