Pioneers Take Down George Washington, 15-8

DENVER, Colo. - University of Denver women's lacrosse senior Melissa Maier(Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored four goals, leading the Pioneers to a 15-8 win over George Washington at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Redshirt junior Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.) had two goals and three assists, while sophomore Meredith Harris (Middleburg, Va.) added a hat trick. Freshman Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.) tallied a goal and two assists.
"George Washington is a good team, and we knew they were going to offer solid competition," head coach Liza Kelly said. "We were tired from three games last week, but I'm happy we were able to turn it around and dig deep for the win."
The Crimson and Gold (6-1, 2-0 MPSF) jumped to a quick 4-0 lead just over nine minutes into the game and took a 6-2 advantage to halftime.
However, the Colonials (6-3) scored five-straight goals in the second half to tie the game at 7-7 with 15:52 left in the game. George Washington knotted the game again following a Remenapp goal, but the Pioneers ended the game with seven unanswered goals. Denver outshot George Washington 34-15 in the game.
The Pioneers host Delaware at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT.
