16-9 victory over Notre Dame College on Wednesday evening at
The Purple Eagles (3-5) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opening half with senior Caitlin Sacco starting the scoring for Niagara off a feed from Pierce.
Notre Dame's Kelly Matthewman finally put the Falcons (3-7) on the board with less than two minutes left in the half, but freshman Carrie-Jo Farrugia and Matecki tallied the next two goals to make it an 11-1 game heading into intermission.
Niagara quickly scored in the second thirty minutes of play off a shot by French assisted by Matecki with 29:45 on the clock. Notre Dame saw the better of the chances for the remainder of the game, outscoring Niagara 7-5 that included a 5-0 run in the last ten minutes of play, but it was not enough to rally back.
French finished the game with four goals as Matecki added an assist to her three-goal effort. Senior Nicole Karek, freshman Emily Fleetwood and Sacco each added two goals in the win while freshman Courtney Pierce contributed three assists.
Sophomore Kaitlin Sorgi made four saves for the win, as freshman Nicole Warwo made her debut in net for the Purple Eagles, pushing aside five Falcon shots.
Niagara returns to the field on Saturday, April 7 to host the Iona Gaels in a conference match. Action is set to begin at noon at Niagara Field.
