Jacksonville Rips 52 Shots in NLC Tourney Win
from press release
DAVIDSON, N.C. – A trio of sophomores put
on an offensive fireworks display as Jacksonville bounced
Presbyterian from the National Lacrosse Conference tournament,
23-5, here Friday.
Brittney Orashen had four goals and Morgan Derner and Nikki Erdely added three each as the Dolphins upped their record to 13-4 as JU peppered PC goalies with 52 shots.
The Dolphins, who beat the Blue Hose 22-6 last week in the regular season final, rolled to a 16-3 halftime lead as Erdely, Derner and Orashen all had first-half hat tricks.
JU got on the board just 33 seconds into the game when sophomore attack Ali Hoffman scored her 33rd goal of the season after Orashen controlled the opening draw.
A little more than two minutes later, freshman Holly Ventimiglia, who with Orashen was named co-Rookie of the Year on the team, scored and the Dolphins were under way.
Derner tied the school record for consecutive games with a goal (12 set by Kaitlin Stewart earlier this season) when she found the net with 25:23 to play in the first half.
From there, Erdely, Kayleigh Hynes, Amanda Hurley, Ellyn Spangenberg, Orashen and Jen Cosgrove all scored, some multiple times as the Dolphins put an early end to the contest. It was the ninth consecutive game Hurley has scored a goal.
Derner started the second half scoring with 29:09 to play and Orashen, Chelsea Watts, Abbie Warnken, Morgan Basler and Ally Dell all followed suit. Hoffman had four assists adding to her school-record as she has 27 and a team-leading 60 points.
JU All-American candidate, defender Rachel Hannon, had 12 draw controls giving her 116 for the season, just 10 from the all-time NCAA record. She also had three ground balls.
