HARRISONBURG, Va. — James Madison outscored California 8-3 in the second half to pull away to an 11-5 win in the season-opening women's lacrosse game for both teams Thursday evening at University Park.
Redshirt senior Casey Ancarrow (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) and sophomore Steph Finley (Media, Pa./Sacred Heart) each scored four goals for the Dukes, who never trailed in the match.

Cal got not closer than four goals (the last time 9-5 at 4:00) the rest of the way.
Ancarrow and senior Nicole Stiles (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman) controlled three draws to lead JMU in that category, and sophomore Lexi Cross (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) finished with game highs of five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Finley and senior Amanda Mathews (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) each had three ground balls.
