Jacksonville On Way to Atlantic Sun Title Bout

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Top seeded Jacksonville rolled to a 23-3 win over Kennesaw State on Friday afternoon to earn a spot in the Atlantic Sun Championship game on Sunday. The Dolphins will now face the winner of Detroit and Stetson.

Backed by one of the most lethal offensive attacks in the nation Jacksonville (12-5) jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening 6:30 and never looked back. First Team All-A-Sun selection Amanda Hurley (Columbus, Ga.) and Second Team All-Sun selection Morgan Derner (Lake Mary, Fla.) and had two goals for the Dolphins during the opening spurt while A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Ali Hoffman (Gambrills, Md.) helped set the stage with three of her game high four assists.

The Dolphins defense would do the rest as the unit which entered the game leading the country in caused turnovers and ground balls per game held the Owls without a shot attempt in the first half.

Holly Ventimiglia (Medford, N.Y.) would add a hat trick later in the half to help the Dolphins build a 17-0 lead at the break.

Kennesaw State (1-10) would get the on board five minutes into the second half on a goal.

Jacksonville senior Rachel Krell (Apopka, Fla.) ended the afternoon with a game high four goals, scoring three straight at one point in the second half.

Sunday's championship game will take at 1:00 pm at Southern Oak Stadium and can been seen on A-Sun TV.
