Stanwick's Six, Late Mannelly Goal Lift BC to 3-0 Start

NEWTON Mass. -- Sophomore Sarah Mannelly notched the game-winning goal with 18 seconds left to play to lead No. 14 Boston College past Ohio State, 9-7, on Saturday afternoon at Newton Lacrosse and Soccer Field.
Boston College (3-0, 1-0 ACC) was led by junior Covie Stanwick who recorded six goals in the win. Sophomore Caroline Margolis also tallied a goal.
"Ohio State is an incredible team so we knew we had to bring our best game to beat them," said head coachAcacia Walker. "I'm really happy for our girls. It was a good test for them."
Ohio State's (2-2, 0-0 ALC) offense was led by Jackie Cifarelli (2 goals, 3 assists), Mary Kate Facchina (2 goals), and Hallie Kelselman (2 goals).
The Buckeyes jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first period. Margolis drove through the right side of the fan and scored on a low shot to put the Eagles on the board with 10:56 left in the first. Neither team scored the remainder of the half to give Ohio State a 3-1 lead into the locker room.
The two teams exchanged goals early in the second half. Stanwick recorded her third goal of the game to tie it up, 5-5, with 8:00 left in regulation. She then went on to score two more goals less than two minutes apart to give the Eagles a 7-5 advantage at the 5:27 mark.
The Buckeyes answered back with two consecutive goals to make it 7-7 with 1:30 left to play, but Mannelly cut from behind the net and fired a shot into the cage to make it 8-7 with 18 seconds on the clock.
Sophomore Kara Magley came up with the final draw and Stanwick registered her sixth goal of the game with two seconds left to play to seal the win for BC, 9-7.
The Eagles finished with the edge in shots (20-13), ground balls (10-8), and draw controls (13-4).
Boston College returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 26 in an ACC matchup against No. 2/3 Syracuse. Game time is 2 p.m. at Newton Lacrosse Field.
