Stanwick Leads No. 8 Boston College Past San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Junior Covie Stanwick
notched seven points on five goals and two assists to lead No. 8
Boston College (6-1, 1-1 ACC) past San Diego State, 18-11, on
Saturday afternoon in San Diego, Calif.
Freshman Kate Weeks registered a career-high three goals while junior Mikaela Rix and seniors Brooke Blue and Moira Barry each netted two goals. Sophomore Kate Rich and junior Cali Ceglarski also contributed a goal for the Eagles.
SDSU got on the board just seconds into the game with an unassisted goal from Ricciardulli. The Eagles then jumped out to a 3-1 lead sparked by two unassisted goals from Stanwick and one from Ceglarski at the 21:42 mark.
San Diego’s Bailey Ewing found the net with 17:39 on the clock, but Boston College went on a 3-0 run with 11:31 left in the half to take a 6-2 lead. Stanwick netted two of the goals during the spurt.
Both teams traded goals the remainder of the half but the Eagles held an 8-5 advantage into the locker room.
Rix increased BC’s lead to start off the second period. The Aztecs and Eagles exchanged points down the stretch, but Boston College went on a decisive 4-0 run to increase its lead, 17-9, with 2:14 left in regulation. Blue, Mannelly, Weeks, and Rix all scored during the run.
SDSU was able to secure two more goals, but Kate Weeks closed out the scoring with one second on the clock to secure the win for BC.
Boston College held the advantage in shots (27-20) and draws (19-11). The Aztecs edged the Eagles in ground balls, 15-12.
The Eagles travel to Buffalo, N.Y. on Saturday, March 15, as they take on Canisius at noon.
