No. 5 BC Beats Canisius; Top-Ranked UNC Next

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Junior Mikaela Rix
notched four points on three goals and an assist to lead No. 5
Boston College (7-1, 1-1 ACC) past Canisius College, 10-7, on
Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, N.Y.
Senior Moira Barry and teammate Kara Magley each tabbed two goals while senior Brooke Blue, sophomore Sarah Mannelly, and freshman Tess Chandler each notched a goal of their own.
The Canisius (2-3) offense was led by Maria Kotas who scored two goals.
Tori Quinn found Meghan Cuddy in the first minute of play to give the Griffs an early 1-0 lead. Barry registered her 12th goal of the season at the 27:30 mark to tie up the contest. Magley then scored on a free position shot less than a minute later to give the Eagles a 2-1 edge early in the first.
Canisius netted back-to-back goals to take the lead back, 3-2, with 15:32 left in the half, but BC responded with a 4-0 run to make it a 6-3 game with 7:14 to play in the first. Rix, Barry, and Chandler scored during the run.
The Griffs and Eagles each registered one more goal at the end of the half and BC took a 7-4 lead into the locker room.
Canisius scored to open the second half, but the Eagles went on another 3-0 spurt to increase their lead, 10-5 with 3:46 left in regulation.
The Griffs netted two more goals at the end of the half, but Boston College took the game, 10-7.
The Eagles had the advantage in shots (26-19) and ground balls (17-9). Canisius had 10 saves to BC’s five and held the edge in draw controls 10-9.
Boston College returns home next Saturday as they host No. 1 North Carolina at noon.
