Smith Announces Hofstra Women's 2014 Slate
from Press Release
Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith announced today her program's schedule for the upcoming 2014 season.
"We are excited about our strong non-conference schedule to prepare us for the Colonial Athletic Association portion of our 2014 slate," commented Smith. "The opponents we will face prior to our CAA schedule will certainly prepare us for the rigors of conference play and put us in a position to fight for a conference title and a berth in the NCAA Championship. We can't wait to get started."
The 17-game schedule will feature seven home games at James M. Shuart Stadium, including the first home game of the season against a Maryland squad that was the runner-up in the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
Hofstra will play three games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2013, as in addition to Maryland the Pride will also take on Towson and Dartmouth. The difficult slate in 2014 will feature eight teams that won at least 10 games last year.
The 2014 season begins on Saturday, February 15 when Hofstra travels to New Hampshire for a 12 p.m. game. It will be three straight road contests to open the season for the Pride as games at Fairfield (February 18) and Colgate (February 22) follow before Hofstra hosts the Terps to open the home slate.
The month of March will see Hofstra play four home games and three road contests with the month opening with two straight games at James M. Shuart Stadium to continue the three-game home stand that starts with the Maryland contest. Central Connecticut State will visit Hempstead on Saturday, March 1 before a game against Marist concludes the homestand on Friday, March 7.
From there the Pride will head to Quinnipiac on March 9 before returning home to host Ohio State on Saturday, March 15.
After road trips to Temple (March 19) and Albany (March 22), the final game of the month and the start of the second three-game homestand of the season begins with a visit from longtime rival Rutgers on Wednesday, March 26.
Hofstra will play six games in April with five of them being Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contests. The Pride will open the month by hosting Towson on Friday, April 4 and Delaware on Sunday, April 6 before playing four straight away games to end the regular season.
The final non-conference game of the season will be on April 14 when Hofstra visits Dartmouth before the Pride closes the regular season with games at William & Mary (April 18), James Madison (April 20) and Drexel (April 26).
The CAA Championship will be held on May 2 and 4 at the regular season champion. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Championship are scheduled for May 9 and 11 and the quarterfinals will be played on either May 17 or 18. The semifinals and championship game are May 23 and 25 at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, MD.
