Lenoir-Rhyne Notches First-Ever Win

HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Lacrosse Team (1-3) scored the match's final three goals in the last 2:20 of regulation to come from behind and defeat Converse College (0-3), 18-17, for its first-ever win in school history Tuesday evening at Moretz Stadium.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Sarah Minick (Marietta, Ga.) scored half the Bears' goals (nine) while freshman Rachel Hall (Durham, N.C.) added four goals en route to the win.
Lacey Bevilacqua (Carlsbad, Calif.), Brianna Hoffman (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Page Fortuna (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) all scored four goals for Converse in the losing effort.
After Hall cut the margin to 17-16 with 2:20 left, Minick scored the match's final two goals at the 1:44 and 1:17 marks of the second half, respectively, to lift the Bears to the win.
Bevilacqua added three assists for the Valkyries, who couldn't hold a 10-5 lead late in the first half.
L-R freshman Amanda Cotto (Fort Myers, Fla.) picked up the win in goal after stopping 16 shots. Converse's goalkeeper, Madison Noland (Dallas, Texas), tallied 16 saves as well despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Shippensburg (Pa.) on Thursday at Moretz Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m. Converse, meanwhile, plays at Belmont Abbey Saturday at Noon in Belmont, N.C.
