West Chester Opens in Style with Shutout

SALEM, Va. - The sixth-ranked West Chester
University women's lacrosse team lifted the lid on its 2011
campaign with a 23-0 shutout over West Virginia Wesleyan at Spartan
Field in Salem, Va., Tuesday afternoon.
A total of 11 different players tallied for the Golden Rams, who recorded the program's first shutout since blanking Slippery Rock, 24-0, in April 2007. West Virginia Wesleyan (0-2) was playing just its second varsity match in school history as they embark on the program's initial women's lacrosse campaign.
Starting attackers Devon Lotkowski and Claire Grimwood each recorded hat tricks for West Chester, along with freshman Brittani Keys. Senior midfielder Shannon Hayes led the way with four points on the day - all of them assists.
Tori Dugan scored a pair of goals and assisted on another in her first action with the Golden Rams.
Mackenzie O'Keefe (1-0) started in goal for West Chester and played the first half, making one save on the only shot she faced in the first 30 minutes of action. Kelsey Sward and Jess Henderson split the second half, playing 15 minutes each. Sward was called upon to make one save as well. West Virginia Wesleyan managed just three shots in the contest.
West Chester will be back in action on Thursday when the Golden Rams take on second-ranked Limestone College at Spartan Field. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
