Second Half Run Propels Eagles over Pioneers

Fourth-ranked Lock Haven University scored 10 second-half goals en route to a 17-11 win over second-ranked C.W. Post Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's lacrosse clash on Hickox Field.
Lock Haven improved to 5-0 overall, while C.W. Post dipped to 2-1.
C.W. Post claimed an early, 3-0 lead in the first half with two goals from junior midfielder Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) and one from junior midfielder Ashley Janelli (Glen Head, N.Y.).
Lock Haven notched its first goal when Elyse Fisher scored on a free position shot at 25:03. The Pioneers responded with a goal from senior attacker Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.) at 22:11.
The Eagles reduced the defecit to one after goals from Gwen Buss and Jamie Uzialko. Janelli scored her second goal of the game to push the Pioneers' lead to 5-3. But Lock Haven kept the pressure on and scored minutes later when Uzialko tallied her second goal of the game with 8:54 to play.
The Pioneers were able to push their lead back up to two after Fucich ran in and scored unassisted at 6:40.
Lock Haven gained momentum heading into the half and went on a 3-0 spurt to take a 7-6 lead with 2:15 remaining in the first. Spagnoletta scored her third goal of the game with 27 seconds left on the clock to end the half with a 7-7 tie.
In the second half, the Lady Eagles scored a quick goal 40 seconds in when Uzialko fired a shot into the nylon on a pass from Allison Berger.
The Pioneers regained the lead less than 10 minutes into the half when freshman attacker Jackie SIleo (Wantagh, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Kathleen Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals, giving the home team a 10-9 lead.
C.W. Post enjoyed the lead for the next seven minutes before Lock Haven rebounded with five unanswered goals to lead 14-10 with 7:25 left to play. The Pioneers added one more goal to their tally when Rotan scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Sileo at 6:59.
The Lady Eagles closed out the game with three more scores to hand the Pioneers their first loss of the game.
Allison Berger led the Lady Eagles with six points on two goals and four assists. Teammates Gwen Buss (4g, 1a) and Jamie Uzialko (5g) also helped out with five points apiece. Heather Sacko made six saves in goal to preserve the win for Lock Haven.
Fucich led the Pioneers with five points on two goals and three assists while Spagnoletta finished with four goals. Janelli and Rotan each had two goals while Sileo contributed a goal and two assists. Sophomore Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) set aside seven shots in goal.
