from press release
GREENSBERG, Pa. – After a 7-2 deficit heading into halftime, the C.W. Post women's lacrosse team turned on the offense in the second half to take a 11-9 victory over Seton Hill. Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) tallied seven assists along with two goals to push the Pioneer offense.
The Griffins of Seton Hill came out with great intensity during the first half, with Ashley White and Emma Simmers each tallying two goals during the opening half. White also assisted on each of Simmers' goals. Morgan Cail, Elizabeth Otwell, and Rachel Hibert all also tallied a goal in the first half for the Griffins, accounting for the remaining three goals not scored by White and Simmers.
Brie-Claire Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game for the Pioneers, converting on a free position shot with just a little over 16 minutes left. The next goal did not come again for the Pioneers until 29 second left till halftime, with Abigail Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) putting one in the back of the net off of a pass from Sileo.
Much of the Pioneer offense during the first half and in parts of the second half was halted by outstanding goalkeeping on the part of Griffin Goalie, Nadine Wallace. For the game, Wallace made 13 stops to help keep the Pioneer offense under control.
The second half was a quick turnaround for C.W. Post, as the team scored nine unanswered goals over the span of the half. The first of the nine came off Sileo's second assist of the game, as this time she found Kathleen Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) with 21:30 left in the game.
C.W. Post then scored another three goals over the next six and half minutes, with the eventual tying goal coming at the 13:05 mark as Sileo found Drost in front of the goal, with Drost putting the shot in the back of the net to tie the score at seven apiece.
Sileo then was the one to take the nod on the shot that gave the Pioneers the lead for the first time in the game, and the eventual game-winner. Sileo connected on her goal as she took a two-on-one break pass from teammate Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.)
The Pioneers took an 11-7 lead into the final minute, not allowing the Griffins a single goal up until Hilbert added her second goal of the game with 57 seconds left off of a broken play. The Griffins then added one more with 21 seconds left, however, the comeback attempt fell short as the Pioneers had completed a great comeback of their own.
Sam Powers (Mattituck, N.Y.) came on as a goalie substitution with 3:02 remaining in the first half, and then played the whole second half to help keep and secure the victory for the Pioneers as she made seven huge saves over the course of the second half.
C.W. Post now improves to 6-1 on the season, including 2-0 inside the East Coast Conference with another conference game on the slate for Sunday, April 10. The Pioneers will travel to Lake Erie College for a 12 p.m. game.
