No. 14 Bloomsburg Tops Slippery Rock by 10

SLIPPERY ROCK—The No. 14 ranked Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team defeated Slippery Rock University, 13-3, on Saturday in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) match up.

The Huskies opened up early in the first half with Aubrey Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) scoring at 26:57 off a free position shot, while Sam King scored almost two minutes after off another free position shot.

Slippery Rock would score the next goal, leaving the score at 2-1 at the 14:26 mark. With 1:26 later, Monica Novielli (West Chester/Rustin) would find the back of the net off a pass from King, putting the Huskies up 3-1. The Rock would fire back at 8:35 with a goal, narrowing the score to 3-2. Both teams would go scoreless for the rest of the first half.

Bloomsburg opened the second half with less than three minutes in when King scored off a free position shot. With almost three minutes later Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) would score, putting the Huskies up by three. At the 19:51 mark, Slippery Rock would score, making the score 5-3.

The Huskies would then score another goal when Kelsey Metzler (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) hit the back of the net with 16:58 left to play. King would score at 14:55, putting the Huskies up 7-3.The Rock would then score at the 9:10 mark.

King would score again with less than a three minutes after, putting Bloomsburg up by four. The Rock would tally another goal at 5:59, making the score 8-5.

Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) would score off a pass from sister Tia at 4:11, putting them up by four. King would find the back of the net for the Huskies with 1:43 left in the game, making the score 10-5.

Slippery Rock would score the last goal of the game at 1:24, ending the game 10-6.

King led the Huskies with five goals, while Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) added two goals. Bossert, Noviellli, and Metzler would each also contribute a goal in the win. In goal Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) stopped six shots for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg goes to 8-6, 5-4 in the PSAC, with the win, while Slippery Rock falls to 9-6, 4-6 in the PSAC. The Huskies travel to East Stroudsburg on Thursday at 4 pm.
