from press release
INDIANA, Pa. – Seventh-ranked West
Chester staged an impressive comeback to outlast a determined
Indiana (Pa.) squad in a 17-15 PSAC women’s lacrosse victory
on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon inside Miller Stadium.
West Chester (12-2, 10-0 PSAC) remained unbeaten in league play on the year, running its consecutive conference winning streak to 69 straight with its win over IUP (10-5, 5-4).
The Golden Rams fell behind early, 11-3, with 9:39 left in the first half. IUP netted six straight goals over a four-minute period to increase its two-point lead. However, West Chester finally found its stride over the remaining eight minutes of the half to get the deficit back to a pair before halftime.
After the break, West Chester potted the first three markers of the second half, capping a 9-0 run, to take its first lead of the contest at 12-11 with 21 minutes left. The game see-sawed back and forth from there until IUP scored three out of four goals that gave it a 15-14 advantage with seven minutes left in the game.
Claire Grimwood and Devon Lotkowski then scored back-to-back to put West Chester on top for good, 16-15. Shannon Hayes added another for good measure with six seconds left to close out the scoring.
Hayes finished with four goals and three assists for a seven-point afternoon. Tori Dugan scored four times and added an assist as well. Lotkowski posted three goals and one assist.
MacKenzie O’Keefe started in goal, but lasted just 13 minutes after allowing five goals and making two saves. Jess Henderson (3-0) came on and finished up the remaining 47 minutes, making eight saves.
West Chester travels to C.W. Post on Tuesday as the Golden Rams’ long road swing continues. The Rams will look to wrap up the regular-season division title at home on Thursday when they host Kutztown at 4 p.m.
