No. 12 'Hurst Drops Hammer on Lake Erie

ERIE, Pa. –Senior Kimberly Masterton and sophomore Kayla Minner scored four goals apiece, and the No. 12 Mercyhurst College women's lacrosse team rolled to a 20-4 victory over Lake Erie College Monday afternoon at Tullio Field. With the win, the Lakers improve to 11-4 on the season.
In a game that saw 11 players find the back of the net, Masterton and Minner combined for eight of the team's 20 goals and 13 of their 28 points. Masterton finished the afternoon with seven points, also dishing out three assists, and Minner totaled six with a pair of helpers.
Junior Ally Keirn marked four points on the day with a three-goal, one-assist performance. Senior Ashley Dulaney and sophomore Alisha Catalino recorded two points apiece, with Dulaney scoring one goal and helping out on another and Catalino striking twice.
Senior Jordan Hogan, juniors Kelly Palmer and Laura Trenti and freshmen Cara DuMont, Sarah Stokes and Anna LeGrett each added a goal.
Mercyhurst controlled play throughout the entire contest, outshooting the Storm 42-9, including 26-4 in the first half when it built a 12-1 advantage at the break. Eight more goals followed in the second, marking the third time this season the Lakers scored at least 20 in a game.
Both Laker netminders saw time in the game, with junior Jenny Perkins earning the win with two saves and one goal allowed through the first 30 minutes. Freshman Brittany Waldecker played the second half with two stops and three free-position goals surrendered.
Mercyhurst returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play this Thursday, Apr. 21, when it takes on cross-town rival Gannon at 4 p.m. at Gannon Field.
