Sileo Leads No. 3 C.W. Post Past St. Anselm

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.
– The third-ranked C.W. Post women's lacrosse team opened 2012 with a convincing victory led by Jackie Sileo's four goal, four assist performance, defeating the Hawks of Saint Anselm by a final score of 16-5 on Friday afternoon on Hickox Field.

The Pioneers move to 1-0 to begin the season, while Saint Anselm slips to 0-1.

Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal. The Hawks scored the equalizer at 27:13, but the Pioneers responded with five straight goals to take a 6-1 lead. The visitors scored again at 12:00 on a free position shot, but Abbie Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) each scored their second goals of the game to trigger a 6-0 run to end the first half, with the last goal of the half coming from junior Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.), giving her 100 goals for her C.W. Post career. The Pioneers went into the halftime break with a 12-2 lead.

Saint Anselm scored first in the second half on another free position goal by Meghan Smith, but Olen found sophomore Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) for the first of three straight goals by the attacker, giving C.W. Post a 15-3 advantage with just over 20 minutes remaining in the game.
Ross scored again before Saint Anselm closed the gap with two goals, making it 16-5. But the Pioneers clamped down and held the Hawks scoreless the rest of the contest en route to a 16-5 victory.

Sileo led the Pioneers with for goals and four assists for the afternoon. Olen added three goals and an assists, while Ross chipped in with a hat trick. Spagnoletta and Mayott each scored two, and Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist.

Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) earned the victory with 11 saves in goal. For the Hawks, Katherine Amato took the loss allowing 12 goals in the first half. Alee Ramzi played the second half, allowing four goals and making six saves.

The Pioneers remain at home, hosting Southern New Hampshire on Sunday, March 11 for a 12 p.m. contest.
