Brigandi Leads No. 1 Le Moyne Past No. 12 Molloy

attacker Brittany Brigandi (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers
Academy/UMass) recorded six points on five goals and an assist
to lead the top-ranked Le Moyne College women’s lacrosse team
to a 15-3 win at 12th-ranked Molloy on Sunday at the Dean Skelos
The Dolphins tallied the game’s first five goals over the opening 10 minutes and 23 seconds, including four goals in a span of 1:37. Junior midfielder Gabrielle Kamide (Deferiet, N.Y./Carthage) started the scoring at the 26:01 mark off a free-position shot. Just 33 seconds later, junior attacker Kelly Condon (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) finished off a pass from freshman attacker Catie McKay (Penfield, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy). McKay followed with her third goal of the season with 24:58 remaining in the half. Brigandi capped the four-goal spurt with her first tally of the day 34 seconds later. Just under five minutes later, Brigandi scored off a free-position shot to give the Dolphins a 5-0 lead.
The Lions got on the scoreboard with 19:01 remaining in the stanza as Kaitlynn Kelly recorded an unassisted goal.
Brigandi pushed Le Moyne’s lead back to five with her second free-position goal at the 15:34 mark, while Kamide scored an unassisted goal with 11:45 remaining to cap the scoring by the Dolphins in the first half.
Molloy’s Codi Reiser found the back of the net off a pass from Candice Noakes with 9:52 to go to finish the half’s scoring.
Brigandi started a streak of five straight goals by the Dolphins by beating the goalkeeper off a pass from McKay 1:57 into the second half. Just over two minutes later, sophomore attacker Kathleen Conese (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) posted an unassisted goal. Brigandi won the ensuing draw and raced up field before finding Conese, who scored for the second time in 13 seconds. Brigandi netted her fifth goal of the contest and 14th of the season with 22:30 remaining off a pass from junior attacker Brenna Bauer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton). Bauer followed 1:45 later with an unassisted marker, her eighth of the campaign, to give the Dolphins a 10-goal lead.
Nicole Mastrianni registered Molloy’s lone goal of the second half with 15:44 left in the game.
Three different players scored Le Moyne’s final three goals of the game. Condon scored for the fifth time this season with 11:29 to go off a feed from McKay. Conese completed her three-goal day with 5:58 left after taking a pass from freshman midfielder Laura Hoffman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua). Freshman midfielder Julia Suriani (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) wrapped up the game’s scoring with 2:35 remaining off a free-position shot.
Senior goalkeeper Kelly Fucillo (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee), the reigning Northeast-10 Conference goalkeeper of the week, made five saves to pick up the victory. Laura Vetter suffered the loss after giving up 12 goals over the opening 39:15, while making six saves.
Le Moyne (3-0) opens Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at #2 Adelphi, winner of its last 30 games and the last three national championship games.
