Oor Rewrites Record Book as Limestone Rolls
from press release
BELMONT, N.C. – Junior attack Sarah Oor (Uxbridge, Canada) shattered the program record for career assists and broke her own single season mark as No. 3 Limestone (14-1, 7-0 CC) dropped Belmont Abbey (6-8, 3-3 CC) 18-10 in an NCAA Division II women's lacrosse game on Saturday, April 13.
Oor finished with a goal and five assists, with the latter giving her 142 for her career, passing Kelly Lickert's (2006-09) mark of 138, and surpassing her own single season record set last year. She now has 57 on the year, one more than last season.
She was joined by senior attack Sylvia Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Katie Farrell (Brooks, Ga.) with a game-high five goals with Queener adding a pair of groundballs. Senior midfielder Chelsea Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) had three goals and sophomore midfielder Sam McCarrick (Oswego, N.Y.) added a pair of scores while senior midfielder Chelsea Hargett (Ithaca, N.Y.) finished with a goal and an assist.
Senior goalkeeper Rashelle McLellan (East Lyme, Conn.) started and played 57:47, making five saves and allowing nine goals to improve to 14-1 on the year.
Limestone opened the game by scoring the first four goals and 14 of the first 17 to take a 14-3 lead into the half. Farrell picked up four her goals and Queener three during that stretch. McCarrick made it 15-3 to open the second half and the Saints scored three of the first four to push to a 17-4 advantage with 15:53 remaining.
At that point, Belmont Abbey's offense came to life as they scored six of the next seven but it would do them no good as the Saints easily held on for an 18-10 victory. That win gives them a perfect Conference Carolinas season with a 7-0 record.
Megan Patton led the Crusaders with four goals and Katy Connery finished with three goals and an assist. Rebecca Diggs, Molly Schaefer and Lindsay Connolly each had a solo goal with Connolly adding a pair of assists. Lauren DiChiara rounded out the offense with an assist.
Limestone will next take the field on Saturday, April 20 as they head to the2013 Conference Carolinas Tournament in Burlington, N.C. as the No. 1 seed. They will play at 2 p.m. against the winner of a quarterfinal game between the fourth and fifth seeds. The teams for that game have yet to be decided.
NOTES: Oor now has 142 career assists in little more than two and a half years ... the previous record of 138 was set by Kelly Lickert over four seasons from 2006-09.
