No. 13 Middlebury Smashes Babson

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury outscored Babson 10-4 in the second half on its way to a 14-6 win over the Beavers (3-5) on Kohn Field. The 13th-ranked Panthers improve to 3-0 on the season, with Sally Ryan surpassing the 100 career goal mark in the game.
Middlebury jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a free position goal from Michaela Colbert in the middle at the 21:23 mark. Babson answered with a nice feed from Alyssa Hood to Erin Daley to make it a 3-1 game before Elizabeth Garry scored from the left side with a shot to the far post to increase the lead to 4-1. Morgan Lockwood netted a late first half goal by driving the length of the field to make it a 5-2 game at the break.
Following the second of the game from Garry, Sally Ryan scored for the second time, earning her 100th career tally cutting to the goal with a high shot to the right corner. Her 100 goals have come in 51 career games as a Panther.
Stephanie Gill converted a free position at the 24:54 mark to increase Middlebury's lead to 7-2. Jamie Spang scored in transition for the Beavers, before the Panthers ran off three more goals, making it a 10-3 game with 17:08 remaining.
Babson cut the lead to 10-5 on tallies from Taylor Kralovenec and Alyssa Hood, before Ellen Halle answered at 7:29. Gill followed with her second and third tallies of the game, increasing the Middlebury advantage to 13-5. The teams exchanged late goals, including the first of her career for Middlebury's Dee Miller, making it a 14-6 final.
Ryan and Gill's three goals apiece paced the Panthers, while Halle and Garry each scored twice. Ryan added nine ground balls and six caused turnovers in the contest. Six different players scored for Babson, with Hood earning a goal and an assist.
Lily Nguyen made nine saves in 58:27 to earn the win, while Sarah Macary made 12 stops for the Beavers.
