F&M Takes Care of Haverford in CC Semifinal

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – No. 6 Franklin & Marshall defeated Haverford 15-7 in the Centennial Conference (CC) Women's Lacrosse Semifinals Saturday afternoon. F&M will face fifth-ranked Gettysburg in tomorrow's championship game at 1:00 p.m. held in Gettysburg. The game will mark the 10th time the two teams have faced off for the CC Crown with the Diplomats holding a slight 5-4 advantage.
Caroline Krohn and Kimberly Abruzzo both tallied three goals while Casey Madden, Emily Everdell and Maggie Mae Shields finished with a pair. Brittney Jorgenson, Grace Saliba, and Mary Mitchell each scored a point for the Diplomats (14-3). Lauren Selawski, Anastasia Mergner, Ali Kelly along with Jorgenson and Mitchell all handed out one assist.
Krohn got her first two in the first seven minutes of action to put F&M up 2-0. Mitchell found Shields at 22:32 to make it 3-0 before the Fords (13-5) found the net a minute later. F&M answered with two straight from Shields and Jorgenson and Diana Perry brought Haverford within three, 5-2, with 10:04 left in the half.
The Diplomats scored another pair with Everdell and Abruzzo doing the damage, but the Fords answered with two of their own to make it 7-4 at the break.
F&M opened the second with a convincing 4-0 run to take a commanding 11-4 lead with 20:19 left to play. Haverford put one through at 19:56 before Madden and Saliba struck four minutes apart to give F&M a 13-5 lead. The Fords responded with two straight and the Diplomats matched that with two more goals by Abruzzo that made it 15-7 with 49 seconds left to play.
Emily D'Erasmo had three ground balls and two caused turnovers while Jen Noon, Kelsey Hoffman and A. Kelly also caused two turnovers.
Hoffman went to 14-3 on the season with nine stops and Shannon Horn took the loss with 16 saves.
F&M outshot Haverford 40-26, won 16-of-24 draws and caused 22 turnovers.
