Rattlers Sweep Weekend Series With Lizards

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Midfielder Steven Boyle scored three goals and added two assists as the Rochester Rattlers earned their second win in two days with a 17-15 Major League Lacrosse victory over the Long Island Lizards at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday evening. The win marked the Rattlers' second victory in a 24-hour span as Rochester edged Long Island by 13-8 on Friday night.

Led by a goal and an assist from midfielder Brian Langtry and attackman Tommy Palasek, the Lizards jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter. But, the Rattlers closed to within 4-3 in the final minute of the first quarter on a pair of goals, including a two-point marker from midfielder Matt Striebel.

After Palasek extended the Lizards' lead to 5-3 just seven seconds into the second quarter, the Rattlers answered with three consecutive goals, including a goal with an assist from attackman Ned Crotty, to take a 6-5 advantage with 7:52 left in the first half.

With 7:01 remaining in the second quarter, attackman Max Seibald tied the game at 6-6 with an unassisted goal. However, the Rattlers put together five straight goals, including a pair of markers from midfielder Jordan MacIntosh, to take an 11-6 lead with 6:53 remaining in the third quarter.

Trailing by five points, the Lizards scored four of the next five goals, including a pair of two-point markers from midfielder Stephen Peyser, to narrow the margin to 13-12 with 40 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Rattlers upped their cushion to 16-12 by scoring three goals in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter before Long Island answered with a three-goal run of its own, cutting the deficit to 16-15 with 4:12 left.

However, the Rattlers secured the victory when Boyle converted a feed from Crotty with 1:18 left for a two-point advantage.

While Boyle earned Bud Light MLL Player of the Game honors with his five-point performance, MacIntosh contributed three goals for the Rattlers, who were outshot by a 45-42 margin.

Peyser led Long Island with three goals, including a pair of two-point markers, while Palasek and rookie attackman Matt Gibson contributed two goals with an assist.
